During your assessment journey with ProblemShared, it may be recommended by your clinician that additional mental health support would be beneficial. If this is the case, they may refer you to our Talk Therapy service.
Talk Therapy through ProblemShared is accessible to you if:
- You have been given approved by your private health insurance
- You have been referred to us by one of our partner universities
You can also access our directory of practitioners on our website.
What is Talk Therapy?
The Talk Therapy pathway provides an effective service to support both newly diagnosed individuals and those navigating existing conditions and co-occurring conditions.
We also partner with UK universities to offer students short-term, brief counselling support. Where appropriate, universities may also refer students into our neurodevelopmental assessment services.
Our talk therapy practitioners collectively communicate in over 30 languages, including British Sign Language. They can offer a range of therapeutic approaches including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- And integrative, psychodynamic, and more.
We match individuals to an appropriate practitioner who can offer tailored support for their situation. Your preferences regarding factors such as gender, ethnicity, language, availability and specialism will also be taken into account when matching you with a practitioner.
The pathway can run alongside your neurodevelopmental assessments or take place after all other pathways are complete.
Is Talk Therapy effective?
Through a lot of global research, the professional therapeutic community has determined that telemedicine and counselling is effective, even compared to more traditional consultation methods.
Our team have collected some further reading into this question if you're interested in learning more about it.
How do I access the service?
How you access the pathway depends on how you came to ProblemShared.
If you're not sure which applies to you, get in touch with our Client Support team. We'll be able to tell you what the next steps will be for your case.
If you were referred by your GP through Right to Choose
Talk Therapy isn't accessible through Right to Choose, however you can access our therapist directory on our website.
Head to our Talk Therapy page to learn more about what specialist areas our practitioners can cover and to find a practitioner who suits your needs using our filters. Their contact details will be available on their biography to make it quick and easy to book in with them directly.
If you were referred by your health insurance provider
If your ProblemShared clinician has referred you for Talk Therapy after your assessment, there's nothing you need to do at this time. We'll arrange the authorisation with your insurance provider and contact you to discuss your needs.
If you haven't been referred to Talk Therapy following an assessment, you can still access Talk Therapy through your healthcare provider. Contact them and ask them to send us authorisation. Once we have received this, we'll guide you through the service.
If you're a student at a partner university
Contact your Student Support service or Counselling team and let them know you're interested in Talk Therapy. They'll discuss the support options available to you and can refer you to ProblemShared if appropriate.
